Nso

"Nso" is a reverent Igbo setting of the Sanctus, the great acclamation sung during the Eucharistic Prayer. Composed by Philip Osita, the piece leads the congregation in the ancient hymn of praise, declaring the holiness of God. The title simply means "Holy," setting the tone for the solemn moment when the bread and wine are prepared for consecration.

The melody carries the traditional text with a steady, uplifting rhythm. As the choir sings "Osebuluwa Chineke, Chukwu n'igwe ndi agha" (Lord God of hosts), the harmony builds toward the joyful "Hosanna n'elu kasi elu" (Hosanna in the highest). It is a familiar and beloved part of the Mass in Nigerian Catholic parishes, drawing the faithful into the heavenly liturgy with its warm, indigenous choral style.
