Christus resurgens by Orlando di Lasso — Lyrics

About Christus resurgens

The composer Orlando di Lasso sets the Latin text of Christus resurgens, a sacred motet exploring the Resurrection. The music moves between two choirs, STB and ATB, creating a rich interplay of voices. The text speaks of Christ's resurrection from the dead, that he shall die no more, and death shall have no dominion over him. It contrasts his death for our sins with his rising for our justification. The second part challenges the Jews to explain how the guards at the tomb lost Christ, asking them to return him or adore his resurrection, joining in the Alleluia.
