About Christus resurgens
Gregorio Allegri's Christus resurgens is a setting of a powerful Latin text celebrating the Resurrection of Christ. The music is scored for double choir (SATB.SATB), allowing for rich antiphonal effects and sonic contrast. The first part of the text proclaims Christ's victory over death, emphasizing that He lives for God. The second part imaginatively poses a challenge to the Jews, questioning how the guards of the tomb could have lost the King and urging them to either return the buried Christ or adore Him as risen.
