YUKARISTIA by EZE, KING. O — Lyrics
About YUKARISTIA
"Yukaristia" is a sweeping, deeply reverent Igbo motet composed by King O. Eze, centering entirely on the mystery of the Holy Eucharist. The piece opens by praising God the Father for sending His only Son to endure the suffering of the world, a sacrifice that ultimately gave us the "Sakramenti nke Yukaristia" (Sacrament of the Eucharist). It is a song that calls the congregation to remember the immense cost of the bread of life.
For a choir, this piece shines brightest during Communion. The middle sections of the motet issue a direct invitation to the faithful—"Umunnem gbayitenu" (My brethren, gather around)—to come and receive the living bread given by the Son of God. It also carries a gentle warning for self-reflection ("Nyocha"), reminding communicants to approach the altar with clean hearts before receiving the sacrament.
Singing this motet requires stamina and a strong sense of dynamics, as the music moves from the solemn recounting of Christ's passion to an urgent, joyful call to the Eucharistic banquet. The repeated pleas for Jesus to come and dwell in the singer's heart ("Nwa piete n'ime obu m Jeso") make it a deeply personal prayer wrapped in a grand choral arrangement, perfect for feast days like Corpus Christi or a solemn Sunday Mass.
