YUKARISTIA by Eze, King. O — Lyrics
About YUKARISTIA
"Yukaristi" is a deeply reverent Igbo Communion hymn that draws our minds directly to the sacrifice at the heart of the Mass. The opening lines reflect on the profound love of God the Father, who gave His only Son to come into the world, suffer, and die for us. Out of that ultimate sacrifice, Christ established the Sacrament of the Eucharist, leaving us with the command to eat and live.
When we sing this during the Communion procession, the verses serve as a gentle but urgent call to the congregation. The choir invites everyone—"Ụmụ nnem gbayitenụ" (my brothers and sisters, rise)—to come forward and receive the holy banquet. It reminds us that what we approach is not ordinary food, but the living bread given by the Son of God.
The later verses guide the faithful into a moment of personal preparation and spiritual communion. As we sing about examining our hearts and asking Jesus to enter our souls, the melody creates a quiet space for prayer. It is a fitting piece for the choir to lead as the church approaches the altar, helping everyone to receive the Eucharist with a ready and open heart.
