Christus resurgens by John Cornysh — Lyrics
About Christus resurgens
John Cornysh's Christus resurgens is a sacred setting for two male voices. The Latin text is an antiphon which draws from scripture, celebrating Christ's resurrection and his victory over death. The lyrics proclaim that Christ, having died once for our sins, now lives unto God, never to die again. A second section calls upon the Jews to explain how the soldiers guarding the tomb lost Christ, urging them to either return the stone or worship the risen King alongside Christians with Alleluia. The direct and powerful message of the text is reflected in the intimate, unadorned voicing for TT, creating a compelling declaration of faith.
