About Beatus vir
Gregorio Allegri's Beatus vir is a powerful motet for double choir (SATB.SATB), ideal for services or concerts during ordinary time or for feasts of apostles and confessors. The Latin text, drawn from Psalm 112, opens with a joyful Alleluia and describes the blessings of the righteous man who fears the Lord. It speaks of his descendants being blessed, his household rich in glory and justice, and his memory enduring eternally, shining like a light in darkness. The music echoes the text's themes, with the two choirs often responding to each other, creating a rich, layered sound that emphasizes the divine favour bestowed upon the just.
