Michael J. Drake, Jr.'s Ave Regina caelorum offers a radiant setting for SSA voices. The composer crafts a luminous texture where the three female voices interweave to create a devotional atmosphere. The music opens with an immediate sense of exaltation, reflecting the opening Latin text which hails the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of Angels. As the piece unfolds, it moves through verses of praise, likening her to the root and gate from which light has sprung for the world, and celebrating her glorious beauty.
