About Ave Regina caelorum
This motet setting of the Marian antiphon Ave Regina caelorum is ideal for a choir of four voices (SATB). Loyset Compère's setting is suitable for liturgical occasions throughout the year, particularly for Marian feasts. The text praises Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of the Angels, addressing her as the root and gate from which the world's light has sprung. It continues by rejoicing in her glorious beauty, surpassing all others, and implores her to pray to Christ for us. Compère's music would offer a rich, devotional experience in services or concerts.
