About Ave Regina caelorum
Nicola Parma’s Ave Regina caelorum is a substantial motet for double choir (SATTB.SATTB), setting a traditional Latin text in praise of the Virgin Mary. This Marian antiphon, with its opening salutations of Queen of Heaven and Lady of Angels, continues through a series of beautiful metaphors: Root of salvation and Gate of life, from which the world's light was born. The text then rejoices in the glorious Virgin, fairest of all, bidding her farewell and asking her to pray for us to Christ. Parma’s setting, with its rich eight-part texture, provides a grand and devotional musical framework for this cherished text.
