About Ave Maris Stella
This setting of the ancient Marian antiphon Ave Maris Stella, with its plea for guidance and protection, is for SATB choir. The Latin text, deeply rooted in tradition, addresses Mary as the Star of the Sea, Mother of God, and Ever Virgin, imploring her to transform Eve's legacy of sin into one of peace. It asks her to break the chains of the guilty, bring light to the blind, and ward off evil. The composer also seeks her intercession, that the choir may be freed from fault and made gentle and chaste. The piece concludes with a doxology, offering praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
