About Dulces exuviae

Johannes Ghiselin was a composer active in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, a period of rich polyphony. This setting of Dulces exuviae is a motet for four voices (ATTB). The Latin text is a poignant lament, spoken by Dido as she prepares for death after Aeneas's departure. She reflects on her life, her achievements, and her tragic fate, regretting ever meeting the Trojans. Ghiselin's four-part writing brings out the sorrowful nature of the words, creating a powerful expression of grief and resignation.
