Beatus homo by Cipriano de Rore — Lyrics
About Beatus homo
Cipriano de Rore was a leading composer of the mid-16th century, celebrated for his masterful motets and madrigals. Beatus homo, a sacred motet for SATTB voices, sets a Latin text drawn from the Book of Proverbs. The text extols the virtues of wisdom and prudence, comparing them favorably to earthly riches and material wealth. It describes wisdom as a tree of life, leading to peace and prosperity, and attributes the creation of the earth and heavens to divine wisdom. Rore's setting would have been intended for use within the liturgy or as a standalone sacred choral work, showcasing the rich polyphonic textures characteristic of the era.
