About Ave Sanctissima Maria
Felice Anerio's Ave Sanctissima Maria is a vibrant sacred motet for double choir (SATB.SATB) setting a beautiful Latin text in praise of the Virgin Mary. The opening lines invoke her with a series of exalted titles: Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, Gate of Paradise, Lady of the World. It continues by affirming her unique purity and virginity and her conception of Jesus without sin, giving birth to the Creator and Saviour of the world. The text then offers powerful petitions, asking Mary to pray for us to her beloved son, Jesus, and to deliver us from all evils, or to pray for our sins.
