Ave Regina caelorum by Giovanni Battista Chinelli — Lyrics
About Ave Regina caelorum
Giovanni Battista Chinelli's Ave Regina caelorum is a setting of a popular votive antiphon, traditionally sung in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Its Latin text, which addresses Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of Angels, also hails her as the root and gate from which the world's light sprang. The text then turns to a more personal address, bidding Mary rejoice as the fairest of all, and to pray for us to Christ. Chinelli's responsive SAT setting captures the devotional character of the text, providing a devotional yet engaging piece for a treble choir.
