About Ave Regina caelorum
This is a setting of the Marian antiphon Ave Regina caelorum, often sung in Latin Rite services during the seasons of Advent, Christmas, and the Purification. The text addresses Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of Angels, praising her as the root and gate from which the world's light was born. It continues with a joyful salutation to the glorious Virgin, most beautiful of all, and concludes with a plea for her to intercede with Christ for us. Amadio Freddi's SATTB arrangement offers a rich texture for this devotional text, suitable for liturgical occasions.
