About Angelus ad pastores ait
An angel announces great joy to the shepherds: today the Saviour of the world is born. This sacred motet by Michael Praetorius, set for SSAATTBB voices, unfolds this joyful message through the Latin text of the Gospel. The music echoes the exultation of the annunciation and the subsequent birth of the child, who will be called the Mighty God. The composer emphasizes the wonder and significance of this event with two exuberant alleluia sections, creating a powerful and celebratory anthem for double choir.
