About Angelus ad pastores ait
The angel announces great joy to the shepherds: today a Savior is born for us. This jubilant Latin text, from the Gospel of Luke, is set by Hans Leo Hassler for SATB choir. The motet is a celebration of the Nativity, with the choir proclaiming the news of the birth of Christ. Hassler’s setting, with its clear part-writing and joyful Alleluias, brings this biblical narrative to life. It is a fine example of sacred Renaissance polyphony, suitable for performance during the Christmas season or as a general celebration of faith.
