The composer crafts a rich, imitative texture that gradually builds in excitement, mirroring the angel's joyous announcement of Christ's birth to the shepherds. The Latin text, proclaiming 'The angel of the Lord said to the shepherds: I announce to you a great joy, for today a Saviour of the world is born to you,' is set with radiant vocal lines.
