NWATURU NKE CHUKWU

"Nwaturu nke Chukwu" is a reverent Igbo setting of the Agnus Dei, the fraction rite prayer sung during the breaking of the bread at Mass. Chidubem Dominic Okoli’s arrangement captures the solemnity of this moment, leading the congregation in a gentle, rhythmic plea for God's mercy.

The piece opens with the sopranos calling out to the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world ("Onye n'ekpochapuo njo nk'uwa"). As the voices layer together, the repeated cries of "Mer'anyi ebere" (Have mercy on us) build a sense of deep, communal petition.

In the choir loft, this piece serves perfectly as the altar is prepared for Communion. The final coda shifts into a calming, repeated prayer for peace ("Nye anyi udo"), leaving the church in quiet readiness to receive the Eucharist.
