Christoph Koscielny's short Mass setting is written for SAB voices in German. This sacred work draws directly from the familiar liturgy of the Mass. The Kyrie opens with pleas for mercy, Herr, erbarme dich, before moving into the Gloria. Here, the text expresses praise and thanksgiving for God's glory, invoking the traditional phrases: 'We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you.' The composer's setting of these well-known Latin texts in German captures the devotional character of the Mass, making it suitable for liturgical occasions. The accessible SAB voicing ensures it can be performed by a variety of choirs.
