About YA UBANGIJI KAI MANA JINKAI
"Ya Ubangiji Kai Mana Jinkai" is a reverent Hausa setting of the Kyrie eleison, composed by Ajabu Patrick Iorfa. Sung during the Penitential Rite at the beginning of Mass, the piece carries the traditional, solemn plea for God's compassion that opens the liturgy.
The music follows the familiar structure of the rite, opening with the call to the Father ("Ya Ubangiji"), shifting to the Christe eleison ("Ya Kristi"), and then returning to the beginning. Written in a steady minor key, the four-part harmony has a quiet, grounded weight that helps settle the choir and congregation into a spirit of reflection before the Liturgy of the Word begins.
