IYAYI (Creed in Bini Language)

Singing the Creed in the local language brings the profession of faith closer to home for the congregation. "Iyayi" is a setting of the Nicene Creed in the Bini (Edo) language, composed by Ezomo John O. for the choir loft. It carries the solemn weight of the Church's ancient statement of belief, moving through the mysteries of the Trinity, the Incarnation, and the Resurrection, all expressed in the familiar cadence of Edo speech.

Written entirely in sol-fa notation, the piece is structured to guide the choir through the long, narrative text of the Creed without losing its musical momentum. The arrangement uses a steady, graceful 12/8 rhythm, allowing the words to flow naturally. Choirs typically sing this during Sunday Mass or solemnities right after the homily, leading the faithful in a unified, resonant declaration of what they believe.
