This setting of the Latin text from the Garden of Gethsemane is for SATB choir. It is suitable for use during the Lenten season, particularly for Tenebrae services or on Maundy Thursday. Pacchioni reflects the pathos of Christ's prayer: "Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me." The music captures the tension between the willing spirit and the weak flesh, culminating in the submissive "Thy will be done." The second section, "Vigilate, et orate" (Watch and pray), reinforces the theme of vigilance in the face of temptation.
