About Haec dies
Johann Evangelist Habert's Haec dies is a four-part setting for SATB choir of a Latin text celebrating Easter. The opening "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it, alleluia" immediately sets a jubilant tone. The motet continues with verses from Psalm 118 and other liturgical texts suitable for the Easter octave, proclaiming God's enduring mercy and the sacrifice of Christ our Passover. Habert's music would have been intended to convey the solemnity and exultation of the Easter season, a powerful musical expression of faith for the sacred occasion.
