About Gloria, Old Hall 15
This setting of the Gloria is found in the Old Hall Manuscript, a significant collection of English music from the late medieval period. Nicholas Sturgeon's work is composed for three voices (Alto, Tenor, Tenor), and sets the traditional Latin text of the Ordinary of the Mass. The music moves with a flowing, often homorhythmic style, reflecting the solemnity and majesty of the 'Glory to God in the highest'. The text itself, a hymn of praise to God and adoration of Christ, is sung with a clear and direct musical declamation, suitable for liturgical use.
