About Gloria, laus et honor
This motet opens with a joyous acclamation of praise and honour to Christ the King and Redeemer. The text recounts how crowds once hailed Jesus with palms and hosannas, and the composer reflects how this devotion was pleasing to him. The present-day choir, too, offers its song, praying that their devotion might be equally well-received by the merciful King. Heinrich Finck sets this Latin text for SATB choir. Its sacred nature and the style of the Latin text suggest it is a motet for liturgical use, possibly relating to Palm Sunday or a general celebration of Christ's kingship.
