About Gaudent in coelis
Jacob Handl's Gaudent in coelis is a richly textured motet for double choir, SATB divided. The Latin text draws from scripture and the liturgy to describe the joy of saints in heaven who followed Christ and shed their blood for his love, and now rejoice eternally with him. The composer's masterful use of the two choirs creates a powerful and resonant sound, echoing the heavenly acclamations of the text. This setting is an excellent choice for a substantial sacred work, offering opportunities for dynamic contrast and clear declamation of the Latin phrases.
