About Factus est repente
Philipp Dulichius sets a passage from the Book of Acts describing the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Latin text paints a vivid scene: a sudden sound from heaven like a violent wind fills the house where the Apostles are gathered. Then, tongues of fire appear, resting on each of them, and they are filled with the Holy Spirit, beginning to speak in different languages. This sacred motet, for SSAA and SATB choirs, musically captures the dramatic descent of the Spirit and the miraculous enablement of the Apostles. The composer’s setting reflects the momentous nature of this biblical event.
