About Ecce nunc benedicite
Adam Gumpelzhaimer was a German composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. This motet, Ecce nunc benedicite, is written for eight voices (SATB.AATB) and is set to a Latin text from Psalm 134. The lyrics are an exhortation for the servants of the Lord, those who stand in the house of God, to praise Him throughout the night. They call upon God to bless His people from Zion, He who made heaven and earth. Gumpelzhaimer's setting would have been intended for use in sacred services of the Lutheran church, reflecting the rich tradition of polyphonic motet composition of the era.
