This attractive motet is perfect for a celebratory occasion, perhaps a feast day in honour of a saint, or a Marian festival. Adriano Banchieri sets a Latin text which speaks of joyful congratulations. The singer is invited to rejoice with those who love the Lord, having pleased the Most High and brought forth both God and man from her very being. The text continues with the humble comparison of the singer to a vine, bearing sweet-smelling fruit and flowers of honour and honesty. Banchieri’s setting for SATB voices is a fine example of Renaissance sacred part-music, full of clear, pleasing textures and vocal lines.
