About Congratulamini mihi
Costanzo Festa's motet Congratulamini mihi is a fine example of sacred Renaissance polyphony. Written for SATB choir, this Latin setting draws on the biblical accounts of the Resurrection. The text expresses the joy of those who love the Lord, proclaiming that Christ, whom they sought, has appeared. It moves from the personal experience of weeping at the tomb to the universal announcement of the angel: 'Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen, as he said.' The exclamations of Alleluia reinforce the triumphant message of Easter.
