About Christ ist erstanden
This German motet celebrates Christ's resurrection, a central theme in Christian belief. The text, drawing inspiration from the Easter sequence Victimae paschali laudes, expresses joy and gratitude for Christ's triumph over suffering. It proclaims that the world would have perished had he not risen, and that his resurrection is the reason for praising him. The SSB voicing offers a bright, clear sonority suitable for the exultant message of this sacred work. Michael Praetorius's setting of these Easter hymns would have been a powerful addition to liturgical services during his time.
