Cantate Domino by David Millard — Lyrics
Alleluja. Cantate Domino canticum novum;
laus ejus in ecclesia sanctorum.
Laetetur Israël in eo qui fecit eum,
et filii Sion exsultent in rege suo.
Laudent nomen ejus in choro;
in tympano et psalterio psallant ei.
Quia beneplacitum est Domino in populo suo,
et exaltabit mansuetos in salutem.
Exsultabunt sancti in gloria;

About Cantate Domino
David Millard's Cantate Domino is a jubilant setting of a Latin text drawn from the Psalms. This sacred motet for SATB choir opens with a resounding Alleluja, calling for a new song to be sung to the Lord. The music likely reflects the text's message of praise, rejoicing, and exultation, inviting the faithful to celebrate God's creation and salvation. The text speaks of God's pleasure in his people and the exaltation of the humble, while also invoking the saints in glory and their role in enacting divine judgment. This piece offers a powerful and dynamic musical expression of faith and divine sovereignty, suitable for liturgical or concert settings.
