About Cantate Domino
Cantate Domino, a jubilant setting of Psalm 96, is a magnificent work for double SATB choir by Giovanni Gabrieli. The text, taken from the Latin Vulgate, calls for all the earth to sing a new song to the Lord, announcing His salvation and glory among the nations. It speaks of the Lord's greatness, His awe-inspiring power over all gods, and the beauty and holiness of His presence. The motet exalts God as the creator of the heavens and calls for all peoples to bring Him glory and honour. Gabrieli's masterful use of the double choir allows for a rich, antiphonal dialogue and a powerful, resonant sound, creating a truly glorious and stately declaration of praise.
