About Cantate Domino
The Latin text of this motet, taken from Psalm 96, calls for joyful praise of God's righteous reign. It paints a vibrant scene of universal celebration, with the heavens, the earth, and the islands exulting and announcing God's glory and wonders to all nations. Blasius Ammon’s setting for double choir (SSAT.ATBB) creates a rich, resonant soundworld, ideal for conveying the grandeur and exultation of the text. This contrapuntal work, with its careful interplay between the two choirs, builds to a powerful proclamation of God's dominion, making it a fitting choice for services or concerts aiming for a majestic and uplifting effect.
