BIA MỤỌ NSỌ (Sequence)

"Bia Mụọ Nsọ" is a vibrant Igbo setting of the Veni Sancte Spiritus, the ancient Sequence hymn appointed for Pentecost Sunday. Sung just before the Gospel Acclamation, the Sequence is a poetic and urgent invocation of the Holy Spirit. This arrangement translates the rich imagery of the original Latin text into the vernacular, calling on the Spirit as the "best consoler" (Onye ntasi obi kacha mma) and the sweet guest of the soul.

The score is structured to carry the congregation through the traditional petitions of the Pentecost feast. A recurring chorus anchors the piece, while eight short verses and a bridge section allow the choir to explore the Spirit's role as rest in labor, comfort in mourning, and the source of the sevenfold gifts. The bridge powerfully emphasizes human dependence on divine grace, declaring that without the Spirit, there is nothing good in us ("Ewepụ Gị... onweghị ihe mmadụ nkịtị pụrụ ime mma").
