About Benedictus
André Vierendeels' setting of the Benedictus is a devotional work for SATB choir, sung in Latin. It forms part of a larger Mass setting, a tradition stretching back centuries in Western liturgical music. The text, a quotation from the Gospels, proclaims 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord', followed by the acclamation 'Hosanna in the highest'. Vierendeels' music would have been composed to accompany these sacred words within a liturgical context.
