Benedicam Dominum by Giovanni Matteo Asola — Lyrics
Benedicam Dominum in omni tempore; semper laus ejus in ore meo.
In Domino laudabitur anima mea: audiant mansueti, et laetentur.
About Benedicam Dominum
Giovanni Matteo Asola's Benedicam Dominum is a sacred motet for treble voices (SAT). The music opens with a gentle interplay between the voices, creating a devotional atmosphere. The Latin text, drawn from Psalm 34, speaks of blessing the Lord at all times and praising Him constantly. It continues by stating that the soul shall glory in the Lord, and encouraging the meek to hear and rejoice. Asola's setting skillfully captures the contemplative and joyful spirit of these verses, with a texture that allows each voice to be heard clearly.
