About Benedicam Dominum
This sacred motet for two sopranos sets a Latin text drawn from the Psalms. The music opens with a reference to David's clever ruse before Achimelech, then moves into a profound expression of praise and trust in God. The text speaks of God's constant presence, His deliverance from all troubles, and the joy of those who seek Him. It culminates in the exhortation to 'taste and see that the Lord is good,' and the assurance that 'blessed is the man who hopes in Him.' Leoni’s setting for SS offers a direct and intimate setting of these powerful words, suitable for smaller ensembles seeking to explore the rich devotional repertoire of the Renaissance.
