About Ave Regina coelorum
A votive antiphon suitable for Marian services, Marco Molinari's Ave Regina coelorum is a beautiful setting in Latin for SATB choir. The text, a traditional Marian antiphon, greets Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of Angels. It continues by invoking her as the 'holy root' and 'gate' from which the world's light arose, before celebrating her glorious and beautiful nature. The composer's response to this text is one of flowing lyricism, with the voices weaving together in rich harmonic textures. The motet concludes with a plea for the Virgin to intercede with Christ on behalf of the faithful, offering a moment of profound devotion and prayer.
