About Ave Maria
Guillaume Bouzignac's Ave Maria sets the familiar Latin text with a dramatic and engaging narrative. The work unfolds the Annunciation, contrasting the angelic greeting of Gabriel with Mary's humble, questioning response. The choir voices Mary's inner turmoil and eventual acceptance, "Ecce ancilla Domini; fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum." Bouzignac, a contemporary of Monteverdi, writes with a rich harmonic palette and a clear sense of dramatic purpose, making this motet a powerful exploration of faith and obedience.
