About Asperges me
The choir is invited to consider the profound plea for purification found in this motet. The text, beginning with the familiar words of Psalm 51, Asperges me Domine, asks to be cleansed with hyssop, washed whiter than snow. The composer, Franz Schöpf, sets this ancient Latin text for SATB choir. The mood shifts from penitential supplication to the triumphant declaration of the Gloria Patri, Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. This setting offers a rich opportunity for expressive sacred singing.
