About Asperges me
This setting of the Asperges me text by Carl Bonaventura Witzka is designed for SATB choir. The Latin text is a Marian antiphon traditionally sung during the sprinkling of holy water at the beginning of Mass, especially during the Easter season. The composer sets the plea for purification, "Sprinkle me with hyssop, Lord, and I shall be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow," alongside the plea for mercy "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your great mercy." The familiar doxology "Glory be to the Father..." is also included, concluding the antiphon with a profound statement of Trinitarian faith.
