About Ascendit Deus
Ascendit Deus is a sacred motet for SATB choir, setting a Latin text from Psalm 47. The music opens with a jubilant depiction of God's ascent into heaven accompanied by the sound of trumpets. The text continues to celebrate God's generosity in giving gifts to humanity, before proclaiming His heavenly throne. Ferdinand Schaller's setting, scored for four-part unaccompanied choir, captures the majestic and exultant nature of the text. The Latin text, proclaiming divine ascension and heavenly preparation, lends itself to a powerful and uplifting choral sound.
