ANIMA CHRISTI by Marco Frisina — Lyrics
About ANIMA CHRISTI
Marco Frisina’s setting of the "Anima Christi" is a deeply moving piece that brings a sense of profound stillness to the church. The arrangement opens with the full choir singing the beloved Eucharistic prayer in gentle, flowing harmony. As we sing "Anima Christi, sanctifica me" (Soul of Christ, sanctify me), the music invites both the singers and the congregation into a quiet, meditative space.
In the verses, the texture shifts beautifully. A soloist takes the lead to sing the more personal petitions—asking for comfort, protection, and the grace to be called at the hour of death. Underneath this solo line, the rest of the choir provides a soft, sustained "Ah" in the background, creating a warm cushion of sound that carries the soloist's voice through the church.
This piece is a wonderful choice for Communion or during Benediction and Adoration. It does not rush; it simply breathes with the text. When the choir sings this after the congregation has received the Eucharist, it helps everyone focus on the mystery of the sacrament, turning the ancient Latin words into a deeply personal prayer.
