Alma Redemptoris

Oliver Hayes sets the traditional Marian antiphon Alma Redemptoris Mater for SATB choir. The Latin text, a prayer to the Mother of the Redeemer, evokes her as the gateway to heaven and the star of the sea, succouring a falling people. It recalls the Annunciation, when she received God's greeting from Gabriel, and implores her mercy for sinners. Hayes's setting reflects the devotional nature of the words, offering a rich and resonant choral sound suitable for liturgical use or concert programming. The SATB voicing allows for full harmonic exploration of this ancient and profound text.
