OTITO DIRI CHINEKE

"Otito Diri Chineke" is a vibrant Igbo setting of the Gloria, composed by Ifeanyi Nwaiwu. For Nigerian Catholic choirs, the Gloria is often a moment of high energy and profound joy during the Mass, and this piece captures that spirit perfectly. The title translates to the opening lines of the great hymn of praise: "Glory to God in the highest."

The arrangement is structured with a lively, recurring refrain that the whole congregation can easily catch onto, anchoring the piece in a spirit of communal thanksgiving. Between these refrains, the choir takes the lead through four distinct verses. These verses walk faithfully through the traditional liturgical text, moving from adoration of God the Father to the supplication of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and finally concluding with a majestic doxology to the Holy Trinity.

Singing this during festive Sunday Masses or solemnities brings a wonderful lift to the liturgy. The rhythmic drive of the solfa notation encourages a bright, full-throated sound from the choir loft. It is a joyful way to lead the people in giving thanks to God for His great glory, ending with a resounding, layered "Amen."
