Omogode R' Oghene (Lamb of God)

This Urhobo setting of the Agnus Dei brings a gentle, rhythmic reverence to the breaking of the bread. Titled "Omogode R' Oghene" (Lamb of God), the piece is a staple for choirs singing the Mass in Urhobo, carrying the familiar threefold plea for mercy and peace.

During the Communion rite, as the congregation prepares to receive the Eucharist, the choir leads this prayer. The melody is structured to allow the voices to weave together naturally, repeating the core petition "Ro si imuemu r'akpo na no" (who takes away the sins of the world) before resolving into the final request for peace ("k'avware ufuoma"). It is a beautiful example of how indigenous languages enrich the universal liturgy of the Church.
