Omogode r' Oghene (Lamb of God)

"Omogode r'Oghene" is a reverent setting of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in the Urhobo language, composed by M.C. Anyanwu. It is sung during the fraction rite of the Mass, just before Holy Communion, as the priest breaks the consecrated host.

The piece follows the traditional three-part structure of the prayer. The choir leads the congregation in acknowledging Christ as the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world ("Rosi imuemu rakpo na no"). The first two invocations end with a plea for mercy ("vwa re osi"), while the final repetition gently transitions into a prayer for peace ("vwu fuoma ka vwa re").

Written in accessible four-part solfa notation, this arrangement allows the choir to blend their voices in a solemn, steady rhythm. The familiar Urhobo text and the natural flow of the harmony make it a deeply moving moment of preparation for the congregation as they approach the altar.
